Other accessories include timer and wireless remote controls, battery grips, interchangeable focusing screens for the higher-end models, a Data Verification Kit and a wireless file transmitter for the pro models. Current software includes EOS Utility 1.1 (which has replaced EOS Capture) for remote camera operation and Digital Photo Professional Version 2.2 for dedicated RAW-image processing.

    Fujifilm
Its name notwithstanding, Fujifilm also has been a factor in the digital photography arena for some time, with a wide array of compact digital cameras and a line of pro D-SLRs, two of which are current models. Based on Nikon camera technology and using Nikon-mount lenses, the FinePix S3 Pro incorporates Fujifilm’s own image sensor and imaging engine. The Super CCD SR II sensor features 6.17 million high-sensitivity S-pixels and 6.17 million low-sensitivity R-pixels, resulting in an ex-panded dynamic range and a total of 12.34 million pixels.

Fujifilm’s new FinePix S5 Pro (which is scheduled for release in spring 2007 and hasn’t been available for testing as of this writing) builds on the S3 Pro’s fine features. Its new Super CCD SR Pro sensor shares the S3 Pro’s resolution and wide dynamic range, but provides improved noise reduction in long exposures, enhanced moiré reduction and allows you to choose the optimum dynamic range for each scene. The new Real Photo Processor Pro reduces noise in high-ISO images (up to ISO 3200) and improves dynamic range and tonality. Film Simulation Mode lets you simulate the looks of pro color negative and reversal films, ideal for portrait and landscape photography.

Live View gives you 30 seconds to check focus on black-and-white (or color with the S5) images on the LCD monitor. Face Detection technology zooms in on faces in captured images so you can check expressions and focus on the LCD monitor. Other features include a 100,000-shot shutter, a rechargeable Li-Ion battery and essentially the appearance and many features of Nikon’s D200.

System Accessories: Both cameras accept Nikon lenses and flash units, as well as some Nikon body accessories. Fujifilm’s RAW File Converter LE, FinePix Viewer and ImageMixer software come with the camera; the more versatile Hyper-Utility Software HS-2V and Studio Utility for remote operation via PC are available as options.
